Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a mosquito-borne viral disease caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus, a member of the Flavivirus genus. The virus is transmitted primarily through the bite of infected Culex mosquitoes, particularly Culex tritaeniorhynchus, with pigs and wading birds serving as important natural reservoirs.
