How the Assay Works


The EEC-Q Kit is a single tube multiplex diagnostic assay leveraging real time reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) technology to simultaneously detect RNA sequences of Enterovirus (universal), Enterovirus 71 (EV71), and Coxsackievirus A16 (CoxA16) from human samples. The kit uses specific primers and fluorescently labeled probes: FAM for Enterovirus, Texas Red (ROX) for EV71, VIC (HEX) for CoxA16, and Cy5 for the Internal Control. This robust multiplex system ensures accurate and reliable detection of extracted pathogen RNA within a single reaction, streamlining workflows for clinical and epidemiological applications.

Clinical Relevance


In rare cases, hand, foot, and mouth disease can lead to severe complications like myocarditis, pulmonary oedema, or aseptic meningoencephalitis. While many individuals infected with non-polio enteroviruses remain asymptomatic or experience mild symptoms such as fever, cough, rash, mouth sores, or muscle aches, children with asthma may face a heightened risk of severe illness. As there is no specific treatment, rapid identification of the causative pathogen supports clinical management decisions, and prevention through regular handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds remains the most effective way to reduce the risk of infection.
