Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is one of the most widespread human viruses globally and is primarily transmitted through saliva and is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis. Many individuals may remain asymptomatic after infection, EBV can establish lifelong latency within B lymphocytes and may reactivate under certain conditions, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. Monitoring EBV infection and viral reactivation is therefore critical in clinical settings, especially for transplant recipients, oncology patients, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

How the Assay Works


The EBV-Q Real-Time PCR Kit utilizes TaqMan-based Real-Time PCR technology for the qualitative detection of Epstein-Barr Virus DNA. The assay employs highly specific primers and fluorescent probes targeting conserved regions of the EBV genome to ensure accurate identification of both EBV Type 1 and Type 2.

The assay is configured as a single-tube multiplex reaction, enabling simultaneous detection of the target virus and an Internal Control. Amplified EBV DNA is detected through the Texas Red fluorescence channel, while the Internal Control is monitored through the HEX channel.
